Learning from Classrooms: Success in Reading for BC Children
by Shannon Davies - Tuesday, 25 October 2011, 03:01 PM

We are pleased to share the final video for the K-4 Reading Project. A special congratulations to the teachers from our district who took part in this valuable project and for your continued commitment to all of your students. Watch the video now!

Beginning in January 2011, 24 Kindergarten to Grade 4 teachers, representing six school districts, met once a month for six months to participate in a research project focused on children in our system who face challenges in learning to read.

* Who are these children?
* What can we learn about them?

We know that there are wonderful teachers who are successful with many of these learners. These children can learn to read.

* What approaches and strategies do these teachers use?

We were able to document what BC teachers understand about K - 4 children who have challenges with reading. The resulting "Learning from Classrooms" story and video are truly inspirational.
